In general, the Program Team recommends that most learners do not take multiple MMFin courses concurrently.
The estimated time commitment for actively learning the course concepts is around 10-14 hours per week per course. Taking multiple courses can also increase time demands further and may lead to an overwhelming workload.
Even for learners who have enough time to take multiple courses concurrently, it's important to understand that several MMFin courses are designed to rely on having previously taken other MMFin courses. For example, the two Foundations of Modern Finance courses represent one course split into two parts. Consequently, part one leads directly into part two—which assumes that learners are already proficient with all of the material taught in the first part. Similarly, the Derivatives Markets course assumes that learners have already completed both of the Foundations courses, and are proficient with all of that material. Consequently, the MMFin Team strongly recommends against attempting to take either 15.415.2x Foundations of Modern Finance II or 15.435x Derivatives Markets concurrently with a pre-requisite course.
While it may be tempting to expedite the completion of a MicroMasters Program by taking multiple courses simultaneously, it is important to consider the potential impact on your learning outcomes and ability to effectively engage with the course materials. It is generally advisable to focus on one course at a time to ensure a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter and to better manage your workload.
Ultimately, the decision is yours to make, but we recommend that you carefully evaluate your available time, commitments, and learning capabilities before embarking on concurrent enrollment in multiple courses.
Important Note Regarding Financial Assistance:
The MMFin MicroMasters Program uses a special financial assistance system, which requires learners to enroll in a course session before being able to apply for Assistance. Combined with how the edX.org platform handles access expiration for Audit (free) track enrollments, learners who expect to apply for Financial Assistance for the program's courses are urged to enroll in only one course at a time.
