MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is an initiative of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to make educational materials from MIT’s courses freely and openly available to anyone, anywhere — at no cost and with no enrollment required.
Mission and Purpose
- OCW’s mission is to openly share knowledge by publishing virtually all of MIT’s course content — including syllabi, lecture notes, reading lists, problem sets, exams, and when available, video lectures and other resources — for free public access.
- OCW aims to support lifelong learning: enabling self-learners, students, educators, and curious individuals worldwide to learn at their own pace, without the constraints of registration, admission, or tuition.
- OCW promotes educational equity and global access: by removing financial and geographic barriers, it empowers learners across the world to access MIT-level education regardless of their background or location.
Key Principles
- Free and Open Access: All OCW content is available at no cost, with no sign-up, enrollment, or registration required.
Broad Coverage: OCW covers thousands of courses across nearly all MIT departments — from introductory undergraduate courses to advanced graduate-level material.
