How to claim your digital credential:
- Navigate to your MIT Learn certificate page and click “Download My Credential.”
- From the dropdown menu select “Claim My Digital Credential.” This will trigger the download of the credential text file on your device.
- The file will contain the raw data of your Open Badges 3.0 credential in the form of JSON code. For now, you should save this file to your computer or mobile device.
Adding your credential to a mobile wallet:
- Download a compatible wallet app. The easiest option is the free Digital Credentials Consortium (DCC) Learner Credential Wallet (LCW), available on iOS and Android. Other wallets that support Open Badges 3.0 credentials will also work. See lcw.app for detailed instructions for using the LCW.
-
Add your credential to the wallet. Once you have downloaded and set up your LCW there are a few ways to add your credential to the wallet.
-
If you have saved the text file to your mobile device:
- Open the LCW, and select “Add Credential” at the top of the Home screen.
- Select “Add from file” and choose the file containing your credential JSON. Then choose “Accept.” The credential will then be added to your wallet.
-
If you have your credential saved to your laptop or computer:
- Open your credential JSON file and copy the entire code to your device clipboard. Paste to email, text message or other messaging application and send to your mobile device.
- Open the LCW, and select “Add Credential” at the top of the Home screen.
- Copy the entire JSON code from your clipboard and paste in the box labeled “Paste JSON or URL.” Note: You must copy and paste the code exactly as it appears. Missing even a single character will result in your credential being unreadable by the wallet.
- Then choose “Accept.” The credential will then be added to your wallet.
-
If you have saved the text file to your mobile device:
Once stored in your wallet, you can check verification by scrolling down to the section called “Credential Verification and Validation.” This section will show that the credential is valid, has not been revoked or expired. For more information on what this means visit lcw.app.
Why use a wallet? The wallet creates a human readable rendering of your credential and allows verifiers (like employers) to instantly confirm that your credential is authentic and issued by MIT, without you needing to request official transcripts or verification letters.
Verifying your credential on your computer:
The Digital Credentials Consortium (DCC) runs a website called VerifierPlus which will verify your credentials on your computer. Visit VerifierPlus.org.
- Using file upload: Locate the section labeled “Drag and drop a file here or browse.” You can either select the text file in your document finder and drag it into the box or click “browse” to choose from files in your document finder. Both options will render your credential in VerifierPlus.
- Pasting JSON: Locate your JSON text file and copy the entire code to your clipboard. Locate the section in VerifierPlus labeled “Paste JSON or URL” and paste the entire code into the box. Select “Verify.” This will render your credential in VerifierPlus. Note: You must copy and paste the code exactly as it appears. Missing even a single character will result in your credential being unreadable by VerifierPlus.
