Yes! All video content within Universal AI modules provides both closed captioning and a full audio transcript. The learning platform's video player makes both easily accessible to all learners.
Each video in the courseware has been meticulously transcribed, and the text can be accessed both in real time—either as closed captions within the video itself or as a running text transcript to the right side of the video (or both)—and can also be downloaded independently from the video, either as a plaintext (.txt) file or a SubRip (.srt) file, containing timing information. The video files themselves are also available for download by learners.

Accessibility
These features allow learners to follow along with the Universal AI video content in multiple ways, depending on what works best for them. However, we understand that different learners may have specific needs or require additional accommodations not already present by default. If you have specific accessibility requirements, require additional support, or have any questions about accessibility, please reach out to us at uai-support@mit.edu. Our team is committed to ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all participants.
More Information
Here's an example of what the MIT Learn video player looks like, showing both the closed captions and real-time transcript features enabled, as well as the video file and transcript download links:
Closed Captions
To enable closed captions, click the Closed Captions button at the bottom of the video player, on the right side, represented by the "CC" image. The button will present the alt text "Turn on closed captioning" when captions are currently turned off, and the alt text "Hide closed captions" when captions are currently turned on. The icon will also turn blue when captions are enabled.
When turned on, closed captions will appear at the bottom of the video content. The captions can be moved by clicking and dragging the kebab icon (⋮) on the left side of the captions.
Real-Time Transcript
To enable the real-time transcript, click the Transcripts button at the bottom of the video player, on the right side, represented by the open-quotation symbol image. The button will preset the alt text "Turn on transcripts" when the real-time transcript is currently turned off, and the alt text "Turn off transcripts" when the real-time transcript is currently turned on. The icon will also turn blue when the real-time transcript is enabled.
When turned on, the real-time transcript will appear in a side pane on the right side of the video content. The transcript pane will present the full video transcript, split into individual lines of captioning. At every point in the video, the transcript will highlight one line in bold, corresponding to the audio content playing at that point in the video.
Each line item in the real-time transcript may also be clicked to skip to the position in the video corresponding to the start of that transcript item. Because the real-time transcript presents the full video transcript, learners can scroll through the transcript to locate specific information, and click the corresponding transcript line item to immediately play that portion of the video.
Transcript Download
The full transcript for every video is also available for download, via the links present below the video player, in the section labeled "Transcripts". Two options are provided:
- "Download SubRip (.srt) file" — This will download a full copy of the video transcript text that also contains all of the timing information
- "Download Text (.txt) file" — This will download a full copy of only the video transcript text, without any timing information
Video Download
Additionally, the video file for every video is also available for download, via the link present below the video player, in the section labeled "Video". One option is provided: "Download video file".
