Python Programming
Among the SDS MicroMasters courses, 6.86x Machine Learning with Python and 6.419x Data Analysis: Statistical Modeling and Computation in Application require that learners have proficiency with Python programming. Neither course teaches or provides a review of Python programming within its material.
Learners who do not already possess a strong understanding of Python are recommended to complete Introduction to Computer Science and Programming with Python, which is available on MIT OpenCourseWare, or other similar introductory Python courses.
R Programming
On the other hand, 14.310x Data Analysis in Social Science utilizes R programming—and it is taught and reviewed in the course materials. Unlike the Python requirement for the Machine Learning course, proficiency in R is not required before starting 14.310x. The course provides the necessary instruction and guidance to develop R programming skills as part of the learning experience.
