The DEDP MicroMasters courses cover many topics in economics, development, political science, public policy, public health, statistics, and related disciplines. Anyone can enroll in the courses, but while there are no formal prerequisites for any DEDP MicroMasters courses, some courses assume familiarity with algebra and elementary calculus. Several courses also require the use of the R programming language for data analysis, for which introductory instruction modules are provided within the Courseware. Overall, familiarity with concepts from probability and statistics will also be helpful across multiple courses.
The DEDP MicroMasters Team has compiled a list of free resources on the program's Learner Resources page that learners may refer to should they want to supplement the Course Materials and/or their pre-existing knowledge and skills.
Additionally, the MITx Online Course About Page for each DEDP MicroMasters course provides more information about the concepts covered in the course and the pre-requisite knowledge and skills. For each of the non-Introductory courses, a Course Readiness Check is also provided to help you assess your preparedness (links are provided below).
If you're still unsure about whether you're prepared for a specific course, we recommend that you enroll in a session of the course on the Audit (Free) track. Once the course session starts, you will be able to review the Course Schedule and can evaluate your understanding of the key concepts as you progress through the Course Material and Coursework.
The Courseware for most DEDP MicroMasters courses also includes additional learning and review resources, suggested by the Course Team and each course's Teaching Assistant Team monitors the In-Course Discussion Forums, where they are available to help with any questions you may have.
Keep in mind that the design of the program allows you to take courses on the Audit track, for free, as many times as desired—for example in case you decide that you want more time to improve your knowledge and skills and/or review supplementary materials—and then re-enroll in a future course session on the Certificate (Paid) track to take the Proctored Final Exam and earn the Course Certificate.
