The amount of time necessary to complete the full SCM MicroMasters Program (the total program duration) will vary for each learner, depending on a number of factors that contribute to the pace of completion.
Course Duration: Learners must complete all five of the SCx courses—which run for approximately 12 weeks each (except for SC0x, which runs for 12-14 weeks), and the Comprehensive Final Exam (CFx) course—which spans approximately 6 weeks, but consists of only a Proctored Final Exam set at the end of the session.
Weekly Effort: Each SCx course is designed to require a well-prepared learner to dedicate approximately 8-12 hours of effort per week. This estimate covers watching lectures, engaging with course materials, completing assignments, and participating in discussion forums. Learners are expected to dedicate an appropriate amount of time preparing to take the CFx, which will vary from learner to learner.
Course Availability: The SC0x course is offered three times each year. The other SCx courses (SC1x, SC2x, SC3x, and SC4x) and the CFx course are offered twice each year. See the SCM Schedule of Course Availability for details.
Course Order: While the SCM team recommends taking the SCx courses in sequential order and one at a time, learners are not required to do so. Depending on when a learner starts taking the SCx courses, and what order they plan to take courses in, they may sometimes need to wait for their next course to become available—increasing the total program duration.
Retaking Courses: Learners must successfully complete all five SCx courses, earning their Course Certificates, to be eligible to take the CFx and complete the SCM MicroMasters Program. Learners who take but fail to pass a session of any SCx course must retake the course in another session (and pay to upgrade it again)—increasing the total program duration.
Estimated Total Program Completion Time: The total amount of time required to complete the SCM MicroMasters program will depend on multiple factors, but the SCM team generally expects that well-prepared learners can complete the program, earning the MicroMasters Program Credential, in approximately 14 to 20 months.
