The SCM MicroMasters Team generally recommends that most learners take the SCx courses in sequential order, from SC0x to SC4x. However, this course order is not required, and especially well-prepared learners may be able to successfully take the courses in a different order.
While the program's Comprehensive Final Exam (CFx) course must be taken last, the program's SCx courses do not require learners to possess any specific academic background or degree, or complete any specific prerequisites. However, the SCM MicroMasters courses comprise graduate-level, analytical content, and learners are generally expected to be proficient in undergraduate-level algebra, probability, and statistical concepts before enrolling in courses. Learners should also possess a curiosity and willingness to learn more!
Notably, the SCM Team strongly recommends that most learners start the program with either SC0x Supply Chain Analytics or SC1x Supply Chain Fundamentals, as these courses together provide the fundamental tools and techniques that learners will utilize throughout the program. Completing these foundational SCM courses first has been shown to benefit learners in subsequent courses
Overall, we strongly advise that learners carefully consider their own abilities and readiness to handle the course material before deviating from the recommended sequence. For more information, review the SCM Key Concepts document.
Key Points:
- Recommended Sequence: The SCM team suggests that most learners begin the program with either SC0x or SC1x. Taking the courses in sequence, from SC0x to SC4x, is recommended because SC0x provides the fundamental tools and techniques that learners will utilize in SC1x and SC2x.
- Concurrent Completion: If a learner already has a strong background in mathematics, they may be able to complete SC0x concurrently with one of the other SCx content courses. This option allows learners to progress through the program more efficiently while still gaining the necessary knowledge and skills.
- Prerequisites as Recommendations: The prerequisites listed for each SCx course are recommendations based on the complexity level of the course material. They are not enforced requirements, and learners have the flexibility to make their own decisions based on their comfort level with the content.
